TEAM Sugi LLC is a Japan-based study abroad agency specializing in U.S. higher education. We support Japanese students who wish to study at community colleges, four-year universities, and college athletic programs in the United States. Our mission is to help each student find a realistic and meaningful pathway based on their academic goals, English level, budget, personal background, and future plans.

At TEAM Sugi, we believe that every student has a different story, different strengths, and different challenges. We work with students and families to organize important factors such as academic readiness, English proficiency, financial planning, housing preferences, athletic background, and long-term transfer or graduation goals.
Through this process, we aim to create a smoother and more confident transition for Japanese students who are preparing to study in the United States.

A Japan-Based Agency for U.S. College Pathways
TEAM Sugi LLC was founded in 2015 to support Japanese students who wish to pursue higher education in the United States. Since our founding, we have helped students explore a wide range of options, including community colleges, transfer pathways, four-year universities, ESL programs, and athletic opportunities.
Studying abroad can open the door to new academic, personal, and career possibilities. At the same time, many Japanese students and families feel uncertain about school selection, application requirements, visa preparation, housing, cost, and life after arrival.
TEAM Sugi provides step-by-step guidance in Japanese so that students and their families can better understand the process and make informed decisions. We place particular importance on realistic planning, clear communication, and matching each student with an environment where they can continue working toward their goals.

Representative Profile
Suguru Homma
Suguru Homma was born in 1990 in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan.
His interest in studying and playing baseball in the United States began during his junior high school years, after participating in a baseball trip to Hawaii. He later played high school baseball at Nihon University Yamagata High School.
After graduating from high school, he moved to the United States on his own. He studied at Edmonds Community College in Washington State and later transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Superior, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. He was a member of the college baseball team for four years and received a sportsmanship award from the athletic conference during his junior year.
After returning to Japan, he founded TEAM Sugi LLC on June 12, 2015. Drawing from his own experience as an international student and student-athlete in the United States, he now supports Japanese students who are preparing for U.S. college study and athletic opportunities.

Since its founding, TEAM Sugi has continued to expand its student support services and network of U.S. partner institutions. We now support a wide range of pathways, including community college study, four-year university study, transfer pathways, and college sports opportunities.
TEAM Sugi LLC was founded
TEAM Sugi LLC was established in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo.
The company began its study abroad support services as an agency representing five U.S. community colleges.
Expanded community college options
TEAM Sugi expanded its community college network to 10 institutions.
This allowed us to offer more options to students with different academic goals, budgets, and location preferences.
Supported more than 50 students
The number of students supported by TEAM Sugi exceeded 50.
We continued to strengthen our support process from initial advising to application preparation and pre-departure guidance.
Started student-athlete support
TEAM Sugi began supporting Japanese student-athletes who wished to study and compete at U.S. colleges.
In the same year, our community college network expanded to 20 institutions.
Relocated headquarters and expanded four-year university support
TEAM Sugi relocated its headquarters from Tokyo to Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture.
We also began introducing students to 10 U.S. four-year universities, expanding our ability to support both direct admission and transfer pathways.
By this year, the total number of students supported by TEAM Sugi exceeded 100.
Expanded four-year university network and celebrated 10 years
TEAM Sugi expanded its four-year university network to 20 institutions.
As we marked our 10th anniversary, we continued to develop our support services for both general study abroad and student-athlete pathways.
